5 MOTIVATING EXERCISE TIPS FOR PCOS

PCOS Coach

Regular exercise or physical activity is essential for managing polycystic-ovary syndrome (PCOS). Exercise may not be something you enjoy doing if you are like many people. Many PCOS sufferers have negative experiences with exercising or see it as punishment. This is true even if they are not dieting. Some people with PCOS let their poor body image control their lives, and they don’t want to exercise in public.

How does regular exercise help PCOS?

  • Improves mood and creativity
  • Reduces stress
  • Improves body image and self-esteem
  • Reduces risk of getting sick
  • Lowers Insulin levels
  • Enhances ovulation
  • Reduces the risk of gestational diabetes

Here are 5 motivating exercising tips for PCOS

Set Realistic Goals

It’s important to have realistic goals and achievable targets if you don’t exercise often but want to. If you haven’t worn running shoes for over a year, is it feasible to run five days per week? Set a goal that is achievable and manageable for you. This could be just one day of an activity during the first week. The same applies to the time it takes you to finish it. You can always modify your goal as you reach it.

Explore New Activities

Do not be afraid to try out new activities that interest you. Perhaps your gym offers a class that you have heard of. You might be able to observe a portion of the class from the window. This will help you understand what to expect. Inform the instructor that you are new. You can have them keep an eye on you and your form to make sure you don’t get hurt. It’s possible that this new activity could be your next favorite.

Register a Friend

Some women find that exercising with a friend helps them to be more consistent. Also, if you aren’t sure where to begin, ask for assistance. A personal trainer may be able to help you with weight training. A personal trainer can help you create a plan, guide you through exercises and machines, and teach you how to avoid injury. But over training can hurt your PCOS.

Schedule It

You can increase your chances of committing to your goal by scheduling an activity and placing it on your calendar, similar to a doctor’s visit. A weekly class you go to can help you stay on track. You get to know your fellow classmates and you become a part of their lives. It is also a great way for you to meet new people.

Make Your Playlist More Interesting

Add some new music to the mix. Recent research has shown that people who listen to music while exercising are more likely to be successful than those who don’t. Your mood will improve, you’ll be motivated and you’ll want to get moving.
