Living with PCOS can feel like navigating a maze with no clear way out.
You might find yourself dealing with a variety of frustrating symptoms, from irregular periods to acne to unexpected weight gain and even difficulties with fertility.
Each woman’s experience with PCOS is unique, making it essential to find a management plan that suits your specific needs.
The good news is, with the right approach, you can take control of your PCOS and improve your quality of life with just a few little chops and changes.
It’s about discovering what works best for you while listening to your body and the signs your hormones sends you.
This journey often involves understanding your condition deeply, making informed choices about your diet and exercise, managing stress effectively and changing your mindset to focusing on a lifestyle change rather than a diet.
Creating a PCOS management plan might seem overwhelming at first, but breaking it down into manageable steps can make it easier – or have someone to literally do it for you (me) who’s done it themselves before!
In this blog, we will explore practical and easy-to-understand strategies to help you create a plan to get you started.
Step 1: Understand Your Condition
Before you can manage PCOS, it’s important to understand what it is. PCOS is a hormonal disorder that affects many women of reproductive age. It can cause irregular periods, acne, excess hair growth, and weight gain. It can also make it harder to get pregnant. Knowing what you’re dealing with is the first step in creating an effective plan.
Step 2: Get officially diagnosed
If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know my thoughts on GPs and doctors when it comes to PCOS and women’s hormones. Prescribing the pill, telling us to go home and ‘just lose weight’ or ‘come back when you want to get pregnant’ is one of the worst things a doctor can do and is absolutely not the solution.
If you have any of the symptoms, it shows you have a hormone imbalance so following the same nutrition and lifestyle protocol will almost definitely improve these, however if you want to go for piece of mind then you need 2 of the following 3 –
Irregular periods or none at all
High testosterone levels (blood test)
Immature follicles coating your ovaries on an ultrasound
It can be quite confusing as even if you have regular periods, you can still have PCOS and vise versa so please do book a free call with me as I actually know what I am talking about!

Step 3: Create a Balanced Diet Plan
What you eat can have a big impact on your PCOS symptoms. A healthy diet can help manage weight, regulate blood sugar levels, and improve overall health. Here are some diet tips for managing PCOS:
Eat More Fibre: Fibre helps regulate blood sugar and can keep you feeling full longer. Foods high in fibre include whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and legumes.
Choose Lean Proteins: Lean proteins, like chicken, fish, and beans, can help manage weight and support muscle health. Avoid processed meats which can be high in unhealthy fats and sodium.
Avoid Sugary Foods: Sugary foods can cause spikes in blood sugar and insulin levels. Try to limit your intake of sweets, sodas, and other high-sugar foods.
Include Healthy Fats: Healthy fats, found in nuts, seeds, avocados, and olive oil, can help manage inflammation and improve heart health.
Step 4: Exercise Regularly
Regular exercise is crucial for managing PCOS. It can help control weight, reduce insulin resistance, and improve mood. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week. This can include activities like walking, swimming, or cycling. Strength training exercises can also be beneficial for building muscle and boosting metabolism.
Step 5: Manage Stress
Stress can make PCOS symptoms worse, so finding ways to manage stress is important. Here are some techniques to help reduce stress:
Practice Yoga or Meditation: Both yoga and meditation can help calm your mind and reduce stress. Even a few minutes a day can make a difference.
Engage in Hobbies: Spending time on activities you enjoy can help take your mind off stress and make you feel happier.
Get Enough Sleep: Lack of sleep can increase stress and make PCOS symptoms worse. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night.
Step 6: Monitor Your Symptoms
Keeping track of your symptoms can help you understand what works for you and what doesn’t. You can use a journal or a health app (Like the CGD app where you have your own menstrual and progress tracker!!) to record your symptoms and changes.
Step 7: Join a Support Group
Connecting with others who have PCOS can provide emotional support and practical advice. Look for local support groups or online communities where you can share your experiences and learn from others. Knowing that you’re not alone can be very comforting.
We have a small community inside the CGD app where you can share your journey and talk to over women going through the same – www.coachgeorgiedaisy.com come and join the party!
Step 9: Stay Informed
PCOS is a complex condition, and new research is always being done. Keeping yourself informed can help you understand new treatments and management strategies. Read articles, attend webinars and follow me @itsapcosparty as I share all the latest info and studies on the reg
Step 10: Be Patient and Persistent
Managing PCOS is a long-term commitment. There will be ups and downs, but staying consistent with your management plan is key. It’s important to be patient with yourself and make adjustments as needed. Small changes can make a big difference over time.
